  • Dead Rock Machine

I went to this bar in Paris' 20th arrondisment last night and saw a "band" called Dead Rock Machine...I'm now in love with the guy on the right who's name I don't know AND I'm obsessed with their music. It even sounds good bone dry sober!!!
Seriously though, these guys are really cool. I don't know if the label band is exactly right, but I guess so. I don't know. I always think of bands as a bunch of people up on stage with more...traditional instruments.
    But thats just me...

Anyways, here they are playing at the same place i saw them last night about a year ago:

and this is their myspace...I highly reccomend them, even if you aren't really into the whole techno scene (i'm definitely not i listen to country and some rock...)

  • If you could live in a different time period…

I would totally chose the end of the 19th century when movies like Pride and Prejudice and Becoming Jane were taking place. That, or when the French court was at versialles (re: Marie Antionette—LOVE)
I swear I’m not a movie addict, but I love that time period. I LOVE the dresses!
I’m not a huge fan of the arranged marriage thing. But it takes a heck of a lot out of the stress of finding a husband, right? HAH

No, but really, Mr. Darcy…so adorably awkward. I love it. And Becoming Jane was kind of a sad ending but pretty cool too. Bittersweet
And, Marie Antionette. She’s got it made. She married into one of the wealthiest royal families in Europe at the time at 16, had nothing to worry about. At least in the movie it seems that way. When I went out to Versailles in October…OH MY GOD. It was amazing. The gardens were gorgeous, and everything was dead already cause the weather got so cold. I can’t wait to go out there in the spring when everything is in bloom. But the palace itself is gorgeous, and the little country chateau (the name I can’t remember off the top of my head) that Louis the XV built for her was GORGEOUS!!!!!
Anyways, I love watching movies from those periods because whenever anyone asks me what time period I’d want to live in, it would definitely be my answer.

    What about you?

  • Celebrity Juice, Not from Concentrate

(I can't get my photo thing to work for some reason...)

    BUT...

    Perez Hilton

This guy is good. Realy really good. Seriously, he turned his hobby into a totally successful career. And yeah, sometimes he can get a little snarky. But I love it.

I wonder where he gets all his info from. He usually has info up there before major tabloids pick it up. Like when Heidi and Spencer eloped…he had it up before ANYONE else did, including MTV.
And yeah, he’s not exactly the nicest guy in the world and he usually doesn’t blog about the most life changing stuff. But he’s still able to turn something he used to do as a hobby into a carreer, and a successful one that has made him pretty famous.

My buddy back home Katie goes to NYU and she was in a paparazzi shot of Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise a few months ago. She spent HOURS stalking Perez Hilton trying to see if the photo was up with her in the background. It never showed up, but damn that would’ve been cool!

  • I MISS MY PUPPY!!!!

I haven't seen her since August. And I get to see her in 17 days!! YAY!
And, the other day I was skyping with my dad, and he put her on and I got her to "sit" and to "speak" over skype which was pretty much amazing.

    Here's MISSY!

  • "Slaves Helped Build White House"- CNN.com

I found an interesting article on CNN
    here: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/12/02/slaves.white.house/index.html

Its cool that everyone is so excited that there is going to be an African American president in office come january. I'm really excited. Even the French are excited!
The only thing is, I think people should take the focus off the fact that Obama is black. Yes, its cool, but its unfortunate that he's known more around the world as the first black president rather than the first democratic president in a while, or as a champion for change, or whatever else. Maybe that's just how things are in France right now. Certainly the political climate over here is different- France was %99 for Obama at the least.

So, this article basically talks about the "irony" (not in a sarcastic way) of how they discovered that slaves were involved in the construction of the White House and the Capitol, and now there is an African American family moving in. OK. Cool. Why do we need to keep prodding this? People should focus on things other than his racial identity and skin color.

One line in this article really irked me. ""The apple cart has been turned over here when you have the Obamas -- the first African-American couple -- now actually management and you are having in some cases white Americans serving them," says presidential historian Doug Brinkley."

OK...so its ok to try to turn the tables and have a slavery-like attitude? I'm sure thats not what this guy was saying at all, but when I read that it kind of hit me the wrong way. Aren't we past all this by now? Maybe its where I come from that race really is not a factor anymore...but I can't help but be a little offended by the fact that this guy Brinkley makes it sound like the only accomplishment Obama made was being elected while being black.

Hardly. I really hope people stop focusing on his skin color. I think there are many more important things than that...seriously.

About Me

  • I'm just doing this cause I have a lot of stuff I write about, and I figure it would be neat to put it all in one place. A lot of people have been encouraging me to do it, so I will. I'm 18, I'm an expat living in France for a year before I go back to a University in Washington DC next fall. I've been told by those who know me best that for an 18-year-old I have what people call an "old soul"...I don't know if its a good thing but I guess I'll find out as I go along. One thing I do agree with them on is that in my 18 years I've been through a lot. probably more than some people experience in their lifetimes. I guess thats why I like to write. I kept journals for a while but then the problem I ran into was that I couldn't write as fast as I could think. So then I started typing the stuff up as I thought it and saving it on my computer. NOW, I'm posting some of it on here, and writing more basically everyday.
